We thank all our contestants, our audience, our officials, and our sponsors. Without you the "Golden Gavel" would not exist.

Next year, 2011 will be our 65th Anniversary, so start planning to enter, sponsor, and support us. We are planning to have a special event for the final in February.


Victoria's "Golden Gavel Speech Competition" ... since 1946


The Golden Gavel Speech Competition is an annual speaking competition sponsored by the Golden Gavel Committee, a non profit organization.
The event is open to ALL new public speakers, 17 years and older, on Vancouver Island and the gulf Islands whose training in public speaking is limited to the 18 month period immediately preceding the competition date.

The Golden Gavel Speech Competition Mission Statement:

"The purpose of this annual competition is to encourage and challenge new public speakers through friendly competition in a supportive environment.

This competition is for novice speakers. Our intent is to create a safe area for novice speakers to challenge themselves and grow."

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2010 GOLDEN GAVEL FINALISTS!
The Golden Gavel Speech Competition final results from June 11, 2010:
Highest Honours - Bernadette O'Connor of Victoria
2nd Highest Honours - Heather Pardon of Nanaimo
3rd Highest Honours - Kim Miles of Victoria
Each first place finisher from the preliminaries received a book prize. Each of the above finalists were awarded another book prize. The award books featured subjects in speaking, and presentation skills.

Once again, Accent Refrigeration donated three award plaques for the final evening. Thank you to company owner Art Sutherland (1996 Golden Gavel Winner)!

Congratulations and thanks to all 15 contestants for your amazing speeches! All contestants received an "Award of Achievement" trophy in honour of their participation in this historical competition, and this year with Prelimary rounds both in Victoria and Nanaimo.

Thanks to all those who helped out each night, and all club, corporate, and private contributors of the many door prizes!
